Saving money sucks.

Do you want to know why?

It sucks because when you save money, you are saving to SPEND it later! Think about it for a second, why do people save? They save because they don't make enough money. If you are in this situation, consider getting out of it as opposed to just saving to get by. In the long run, you will get nowhere fast.

If you have to save, you don't make enough money! Your job is not paying you enough. Its as simple as that. You should consider moving onto either a better one that will pay you enough so that you don't have to save, or work for yourself by starting your own business. Staying at your job until you make enough will either:

a) Take years. (anywhere from 2 to 10 depending on profession)

or

b) Won't even happen at all.

Do you feel like stressing over saving money for the many years before you are recognized by the company you work for? Is 10 cent raises sufficent for you? Do you want to lose your hair at the age of 30 because of your job?

Take a look at this problem here:

Say you saved $35, 000 over 3 years. You decide to put it all towards a house since everyone tells you its the "best investment ever". It probably is if you are an average Joe, I personally don't see it as anything special.

Anyways, you go and take the plunge and put it all towards the down payment. Your income (take home) is $3200 each month and your mortgage is $1500. Can you live with $1700 to spend each month? What about furnishing your new place? The other $1700 you earn needs to cover your food, utilities, cell phone, property tax, car payment, insurance, gas, fitness membership, and casual spending (clothes, hair cut, pet dog/cat, etc). By the time you are all done, you'll have peanuts for savings each month.

PLUS: What if something unexpected came up?

1. A Job loss
2. Medical expense
3. Vehicle issue
4. Accident
5. Theft

Saving to live day by day is stressful. Period.

Save to get ahead, not spend it.

This is a good hub. I never considered that. I have always been tempted to dip into our savings, but never have. After we had our daughter, things got really tight, but we didn't touch our savings. Anyway, good viewpoint.
